Sam Pellettieri, Chair & CEO/CIO Sam is the Founder, CEO and Chief Investment Officer of Altema Asset Management Inc., an emerging alternative asset manager.
Sam has been a senior executive at several mutual fund companies, an investment dealer where he lead a new asset management company and was the Chief Investment Officer, and of a boutique institutional investment manager where he was a founder. His experiences include managing complex portfolios, investment operations, serving clients, and building strong teams of investment industry professionals.
In addition to Sam’s senior executive leadership roles he has managed money for some of Canada’s largest investment managers and funds. This includes Investors Group, National Bank of Canada, and CI Investments. Successfully, Sam has cumulatively managed over $10 billion of assets and advised more than $50 billion. He has directly managed various Canadian, US, and Global equity and fixed income strategies using his unique quantamental investment process.
Sam is an investment committee member on two Top 30 Canadian Pension Plans: The Teacher’s Retirement Allowance Fund (TRAF) and the Winnipeg Civic Employee Benefits Plan (WCEBP) – where he is the Vice Chair.
Sam has a Bachelor of Commerce degree in Finance with a minor in Pure Mathematics from the University of Manitoba as well as significant relevant designations from the Canadian Securities Institute and is a CFA charter holder.
Sam is actively involved in the community. He is on the Major Donor’s Executive Cabinet for United Way, a board member of St. Alphonsus School and the Children’s Hospital Foundation of Manitoba. He was on the Board of Trustees for United Way Winnipeg and chaired United Way’s GenNext initiative and on the Finance Committee of Holy Rosary Church of Winnipeg. He was also a fundraiser for the Assiniboine Park Conservancy Imagine a Place Special Gifts campaign. In 2010 Sam won an award for significant career achievements in the Business and Professional category of the Future Leaders of Manitoba Council.
Richard Wong, CFA, MBA, MD (Senior Investment Analyst) is an award Winning Healthcare Investment Professional with more than 16 Years of experience. Medical Doctor and MBA degrees from University of Manitoba. Earned Chief Market Technician designation in 2007 and is a member of Market Technicians Association. Sole manager of the Global Healthcare Fund for 12 years. The Fund created alpha in the last 1, 3, 5, 10 year periods, as well as winning a Lipper Award in 2009. Other Funds Previously Managed: US Small Cap, Canadian Small Cap Growth, US Large Cap Growth.
Ryan Savage, BComm (Sr Investment Analyst), Ryan Savage brings over 12 years of capital markets experience, spanning both the buy and sell side. Over the last 2 years Mr. Savage has been a North American energy sector specialist, supporting diverse buyside mandates. Prior to this, Mr. Savage was a publishing sell side analyst at a chartered Canadian bank and an independent investment dealer. There he launched coverage on international oil companies that spanned operations in Africa, Latin America, Middle East, Europe and Russia, as well as the Canadian large cap sub-sector. During this time, he was named the 2011 Starmine Top Stock Picker in Energy and Top Stock Picker in Canada for the highest return across all sectors.
Jenna Chernetsky (VP Finance and Operations) has over a decade of hedge fund experience. After graduating from the U of M with a BComm, Jenna moved to Bermuda to pursue a career in hedge fund administration. She started as a Fund Accountant at Citi in 2004 and moved over to BNY Mellon where she held the title of VP, catering to international hedge fund managers. In 2011 Jenna moved to Toronto where she joined Goldman Sach’s Hedge Fund Administration division. As VP, Jenna serviced a Tier 1
Hedge Fund client portfolio with combined AUM of $5B. She returned to Winnipeg in 2015, serving as RBC DS’s branch administrator in her most recent role prior to joining Altema.
